Viewing checklist

What to check before booking a rental viewing

A viewing costs time, travel and attention. Before you book it, check whether the listing and its postcode are worth deeper effort.

Confirm the basics first

Do not spend time travelling until the core facts match your needs.

  • Rent, deposit, availability and contract length.
  • Bedrooms, property type, furnishings and bills position.
  • Exact location or at least enough postcode detail to research the area.

Check the area fit

If you do not know the neighbourhood, run the postcode through Map Intelligence and note any follow-up questions.

  • Would the commute be realistic on an ordinary weekday?
  • Does the surrounding area fit your routine?
  • Is anything missing or weak enough that you need to verify it in person?

Ask before you travel

Use your questions to avoid low-value viewings. Ask for missing details, recent photos, floor level, parking, broadband, heating type or anything that would be a deal-breaker.

Keep evidence separate from judgement

Neighbourhood data can help you prepare, but it should not be treated as a guarantee. The viewing is still where you verify the home, street, documents and landlord or agent answers.
